As announced back in April, live support and active development of Dreams has come to a stop as of 1st September, 2023. Developer Media Molecule couldn't find a sustainable path forward, and so has effectively discontinued its work on the game, instead moving onto a new project. All that being said, the creation game is going nowhere, and the studio has outlined what happens next for players.
Again, Dreams will remain online and playable for the foreseeable future, meaning you can still play and create to your heart's content. The end of live support does not equal the game shutting down; it's business as usual for the community. In fact, with the game now on the PS Plus Extra game catalogue, more people than ever can hop in and check it out. Additionally, you can get the most out of Dreams with its new usage terms, which allow you to use your original creations outside the game for personal or commercial purposes. So, for the game's audience, almost nothing is changing — in fact, the game's final state leaves it in a good place, with upgraded animation tools, an audio importer via the game's website, and of course, the release of the brilliant Tren.
For Media Molecule, things will be a little different moving forward. The studio still has a dedicated community team that will be curating Dreams and promoting creations on social feeds. Most of the studio will be moving onto the next project, whatever that is, but a few will still be keeping on top of what's going on in Dreams. As for the studio's regular livestreams, these will shift to once a week (Wednesdays) and will largely focus on community creations.
So, it isn't all doom and gloom, then, although it's a shame Media Molecule has had to wind down its efforts at all. There's more detail on all this on the game's site. Will you continue to play and create in Dreams? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Roblox coming to PlayStation really sealed this games fate. Media molecule failed big time with this title, had a lot of potential that they wasted.
I'm hoping for a new Little Big Planet next. There's a varitey of opinions on why the game never caught on, but in my eyes the biggest issue is the game didn't have even a fraction of the charm of LBP.
@Cjam36 LBP has been languishing since the PS3 to PS4 generation with LBP3, though it could be argued that the original and its sequel have been abandoned since the PS3 and never received a port to PS4.
With Media Molecule back at the helm, it could be a perfect time for LBP4
Just make a new game, why support a failed game? Make little big planet reboot exclusively for ps5. Or maybe new tearaway.
we need a new IP from media molecule now. rehashing little big planet yet again would be a very bad move. those games just don't have the same appeal and novelty that they once did and there is nowhere for the franchise to grow any longer. mm has the potential to surprise us with something completely out of left field. another failure on their part could spell their demise so it is important that they get it right. sadly, i have a feeling they will be put on a ps5 vr title and if that is the case, good luck to them...
Should have made a ps5 update and once they realised it sold poor should have gotten it on ps plus, to at least cast the net to ppl interested but not willing to throw money down on such a niche title.
It's a shame because it had so much potential.
Im just here to praise Dreams. I don't think it ever got the audience it deserves. For me, browsing through Dreams is like wondering around in a contemporary art museum for videogames. Some things annoy you, others make your brain meld or leave you in awe. The learning curve to make something really outstanding is steep, and the variety of tools are almost intimidating l, so perhaps that's the biggest obstacle for people to really get into it. But for what it delivered it's a timeless classic for me. Edit: If they would make Dreams a paid service i would happily pay a few bucks per month for that amount of games. They could even pay a share to the creators who's games get the most playtime.
